Karen has been practicing mediation since 1990. Mediation can be court appointed or it can be voluntary. Karen is a court appointed mediator with the Lake County Courts. Divorce Mediation is a form of dispute resolution. It is a process in which the divorcing parties work with a trained mediator to create a marital settlement and/or a parenting agreement. The value of this process is that the parties feel that they maintain control of the divorce process, making it much likelier that they will stay committed to their agreement.
Parents often voluntarily choose mediation when deciding to reside separately and/or dissolve their marriage. The parents work together with a trained mediator, such as Karen Grais Meyer, to create a Parenting Agreement that incorporates custody (decision making) and visitation (parenting time) during the week, on weekends, holidays and vacations. A Mediated Agreement is written and presented to one parent’s attorney to incorporate into the Judgment for Dissolution of Marriage to be filed in court.
