Karen has been practicing mediation since 1990. She is a court appointed mediator with the Lake County Courts as well as in the private sector. Divorce Mediation is a form of dispute resolution. It is a process in which the divorcing parties work with a trained mediator to create a marital settlement and/or a parenting agreement. The value of this process is that the parties feel that they maintain control of the divorce process, making it much likelier that they will stay committed to their agreement.
Parents are ordered by court to participate in Mediation with a trained mediator, such as Karen Grais Meyer, the goal being to resolve matters pertaining to any of the following areas: Initial Custody, Visitation/Parenting Time Schedule, Removal (when one parent wishes to move to another state with the children), Modification of Custody (when one parent wishes to modify the current custody arrangement), Visitation Abuse Issues (when current visitation/parenting time schedule is not being adhered to), Joint Custody, or other Non-Economic issues relating to the minor children.
