THERAPY & COUNSELING
Karen has been in practice as a therapist since 1983. Karen sees individual men and women, couples, older adolescents and families. Karen conducts support groups for women going through the divorce process. People come into therapy wanting to better understand themselves and/or their relationships, and to relieve symptoms that range from uncomfortable to debilitating. Karen talks with her clients about their presenting symptoms. These may include depression, anxiety and high stress. She also assesses her clients' strengths, assisting them to look beyond their limitations and the problems in their lives, to their strengths and examples of their resilience.
This often has the result of minimizing their symptoms, improving their view of themselves and their relationships, and freeing themselves up to accomplish their goals in life.
Family therapy may be voluntary, court referred or court ordered. The therapy might address: parents communication, management of different parenting styles, children's feelings about and/or adjustment to the parents' separation or to transitioning between parents homes, or any changes in the family that are resulting in problems for family members.
